The First Palmetum of Uttarakhand and also the biggest Palmetum of North India created by Research wing of Uttarakhand forest office was inaugrated on sunday in Haldwani of Nainital district in Uttarakhand. 

Sanjiv Chaturvedi, 2002 batch Indian Forest Services official who heads the exploration wing of the state forest division said, "The Palmetum has around 100 unique types of Palms with a point of advancing protection, further examination and to make mindfulness about significance and biological job of different palm species." 

Finished in a time of 3 years, it has been financed under CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) plan of focal government with a measure of 16 lakhs crossing in a space of around 3 sections of land.

Around 20 types of Palm in this Palmetum are endangered  ot threatend out of which four species are fundamentally imperiled, two species are jeopardized, two species are defenseless and six species are close compromised according to IUCN ((International Union for Conservation of Nature) arrangement, while one is uncommon according to ENVIS (Environmental Information System), one is undermined according to Uttarakhand Biodiversity Board and one is uncommon according to Indian Biodiversity Portal. 

Out of the all out palm species in the palmetum, one is endemic to Uttarakhand-Trachycarpus takil  (Takil Palm). This is just Palm species which can endure freezing temperature and proclaimed as compromised by Uttarakhand Biodiversity Board.
